I am just testing out a collaborative tool called popplet. For ease of use and practicality it starts off as a winner, as always there is more to learn, but others might like to think about this tool.

Create an animation

This is an idea that was flagged up by Tim  Rylands www.timrylands.com

I think there probably are a range of ways of using this simple idea.

Just changing a little...

I found that I enjoyed posting photos and questions, but the 365 constraint, defeated me. However we must learn from what we do and I am keen to carry on with 'photos and questions' in a slightly different format. There will of course be P's and Q's, but also links into things I find interesting, that I will recycle from people that I follow and admire. In that way other people's hard work and inspiration might get shared just that little bit more widely.

The two principal people that I love to follow are Tim Rylands www.timrylands.com , a man with ridiculous amounts of talent, energy and understanding.

Kathleen Morris, 'Integrating Technology into the Primary classroom' ... she started blogging from scratch and now writes and blogs in the most elluminating and supportive way.

Here I have posted a 15 minute video that Mrs Morris put together down in Australia. It perhaps helps to explain. in a non-cluttered way, what class blogging can be about. I'd like to develop a video that summarises my thoughts on the subject, but for now this helps.

The thing I most like about blogging and IT is that people share and they are generous. Kathleen and Tim can be found right at the top of that tree.

Once again the BRILLIANT Tim Rylands  www.timrylands.com  comes up with a sensational 'free' piece of lovely software.

You just couldn't make it up.

Thank you Tim

Something a little different

I am hoping to get the photos and questions page back up and running, in a new and improved way. I have been impressed with some time lapse photography at other schools and now I have found the simple way of doing this. The software is available from www.jellycam.co.uk  There are so many imaginative people in the United Kingdom! The software is free, but you can make a donation. The guy who designed 'jellycam' lives about one hour from me!

Anyway this a practice film. It is breakfast time and for the whole of the film my wife was sitting on the floor organising her school day that started at 5:00am and she will get home after 9:00!

I am hoping to jellycam some aspects of my school today and of course they will appear on the main blog, with appropriate credits to other schools.

Would you use jelly cam?

Photo 77, Questions 202-205: What to do with old tree stumps

Walking through the park in Harrogate the other day I saw these lovely carvings. They certainly have the feel of New Zealand! Anyway it certainly demonstrated what  to do with an old tree stump or two.

Question 202: Do you have sculptures where you live?
Question 203: Do children in your schools get involved in doing sculptural work?
Question 204: Can you name two living sculptural artists?
Question 205: Have you come across art created through recycling in your part of the world?

My answer to Question 204: No...just Andy Goldsworthy.

Photos and questions Rustic Hawk

100_0106

This is a picture of a Rustic Hawk we saw at a falconry display, the falconer explained these are the largest hawks we have in England. They also had Barn Owls, Tawny Owls, Eagle Owls, Harris Hawks and Peregrine falcons. Peregrine falcons can fly at speeds of upto 200 mph. These birds are trained by the falconer to hunt for him, and to work, some of the falcons we saw were used at an airport to scare other birds away to prevent accidents.

Do you have Falconers where you live who do displays and if so what type of birds do they train?

If you had the opportunity to take part in the display as a volunteer would you and why?

Photo 76, Questions 199 - 201: Stumbling blocks and hurdles

Img_0192

I am not terribly keen on a lot of the slogans we see around in schools. However I did like this one. stumbling blocks and hurdles, some people seem to just glide over them.

Question 199: Did you surmount some issues today?
Question 200: What helps you to be successful?
Question 201: What is the thing you do to give other people a lift?

Photo 75, Questions 196 - 198: The Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood and Granny!

What a delight traditional tales are! I expect Little Red Riding Hood must be known all over the world. It was wonderful to come across this little bit of street theatre in Harrogate at the weekend. The look on little children's faces was very uncertain.

196: What is your favourite traditional tale?
197: What types of street theatre might you see where you live?
198: Would you like to perform in street theatre or indeed have you done so?

My answer to 196: I rather like the stories of Hansel and Gretel and also Baba Yaga. Baba Yaga really frightened me when my sister read it to me when I was little!
